Message from the Acting Dean

Welcome to Athabasca University's Faculty of Health Disciplines! Students from across Canada, and in various parts of the world, study online in the Faculty of Health Disciplines. The Faculty of Health Disciplines includes the Centre for Nursing and Health Studies and the Graduate Centre for Applied Psychology. The Centre for Nursing and Health Studies has offered undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing and health studies since 1990 and the Graduate Centre for Applied Psychology has offered a graduate degree in counselling since 2002. A thesis route is available to master's degree students and a doctoral program is in the planning stages. Graduates are our mark of success. Our graduates populate key positions in health disciplines and among helping professionals. They often credit their learning and development at Athabasca University with their professional successes and personal achievements.

I am delighted to serve as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Health Disciplines. I count it a privilege to work with a team comprised of highly motivated and accomplished academics, professionals, and support staff whose collective mission is to provide a premium education to students. Together we embrace the goal of meeting student learning and professional development needs through providing online educational opportunities that are engaging, innovative, and that inspire learning and growth. Beyond this focus on excellent teaching, many of our faculty members lead nationally funded research projects seeking to discover and share new knowledge for the betterment of health disciplines and society. Members of the faculty sit on national and international boards and committees and are leaders in their communities, using their knowledge and skills to further important causes, programs and projects. Our combined strength and accomplishments amaze me, and I feel honoured to play a leadership role on this exemplary team.
