Program Review & Development
Authority for degree granting by Alberta's post-secondary institutions lies with the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology under the terms of the Post-secondary Learning Act, 2003 and the Programs of Study Regulation (91/2009) to the Campus Alberta Quality Council.
The Campus Alberta Quality Council (CAQC) is mandated by legislation to conduct reviews of new degree proposals, including most changes, and to make recommendations to the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology. The CAQC is also mandated to monitor degree programs in order to ensure that quality standards are upheld.
Through its program development and review processes, among others, Athabasca University engages in academic quality assurance activities that meet internal and Campus Alberta Quality Council requirements. These processes are detailed in this web site. Athabasca University also maintains a regular schedule of program reviews and provides updates on this site as to the status of proposed programs.
